At S&S Barnyard Friends, we are committed to finding the perfect home for each of our donkeys. Our adoption process is designed to ensure that both the adopters and the donkeys are set up for success. We take care in matching each donkey with a family that can provide a loving, safe, and appropriate environment.
Our Adoption Process
Initial Inquiry
Begin your journey by contacting us to discuss your interest in adopting a mini donkey and our herd's current availability.
Application Review
We review your application to ensure you meet our requirements for a safe and nurturing home environment for your new friend.
Home Visit
We visit your home to ensure it is a safe and suitable environment for your mini donkey to thrive and feel secure.
Final Adoption
Once all requirements are met, we finalize the adoption and provide you with all necessary care information and support.
Important Adoption Requirements
Transportation Responsibility
Adopters are responsible for all transportation of the donkey from our facility to their home. We recommend using a professional animal transport service or trailer equipped with appropriate safety features for equine transport.
Out-of-State Adoptions
If you are adopting and transporting across state lines, a current Coggins Test certificate is required. A Coggins test is an equine infectious anemia test that ensures the health of the animal during interstate travel. This is a legal requirement and protects both your donkey and other animals they may encounter.
We can facilitate scheduling the Coggins test prior to pickup. Please note that this test and certificate are your responsibility and cost.
Home Environment
You must provide appropriate shelter, fencing, pasture space, and care for your donkey. Different donkeys have different needs, which we'll discuss during the adoption process.
Commitment
Adopting a donkey is a long-term commitment. With proper care, donkeys can live 25-30+ years. We want to ensure you're ready for this wonderful journey!
